High Street 'Live' 2005

The songs which make up the 'High Street' album transpired after quite an eventful period in my life, and a very involved relationship. They are among some of the best songs I feel I have ever written!

'High Street' evolved as an album after I'd been rehearsing these particular songs with a classical keyboard player called Dave Battersby throughout the summer of 2005.

It was one Saturday morning a week before we were due to do an interim concert in St Thomas' Church Kendal that Dave phoned me up and announced he was in Christies Hospital Manchester having been diagnosed with Leukaemia.

This news came as a crushing blow to me for Dave is a wonderful person and an absolutely unique keyboard player.

During the coming week I hastily made contact with Alan Whitmore an old friend and kindred spirit when it came to performing my music. He agreed to stand in.

I also asked Bill Holliday an excellent exponent of the guitar and a great session musician to join us. Bill also agreed and so these two fine musicians went into the final week before the concert frantically learning all the material.

What transpired was absolutely incredible For Bill and Alan to even attempt to learn such involved repertoire in such a very short time and to achieve such a level of performance will always be memorable.

The concert was recorded 'Live' and dedicated to Dave Battersby.

After a long period of time Dave walked out of hospital having successfully completed all the treatments and undertaken a bone marrow transplant.
